putting out the final project
So I've recently been trying to help my resume by going back and actually uploading old school projects and this is one that I'm actually pretty proud of. So we had a VR and AR class that I loved and got an A- in and this was our final project. Just this classroom based escape room. Its very short because unfortunetly we needed it to fit within presentation time, and its very easy cause, once again, if the professor live played it we didnt want him getting stuck. this does make me feel kinda bad as I had hoped to have something a bit more substantial but I'm proud of me and my team and how this turned out.
So first heres a complete walkthrough of the room:

So Denise was group leader she really made sure that we stayed on track and kept the group focused. She worked on the UI so that talking screen and the game over was her doing and i think she did a great job! The teacher also used to look at the player as they walked around, but that broke for some reason which is why they look like they are looking off into the distance. Also things shes proud of, the whiteboard is fully interactable. you can pick up a marker and draw on it. The idea was that people could use it when they are solving the puzzles. Denise was the one that coded and got that working 100% i take no credit for that and i think she did an amazing job! She also split all animations with Kaylin.
Kaylin Worked on a lot of the documentation as well as audio stuff and helping with putting the whole thing together. we each were working on our own separate parts of the game and she was the one that took all these different parts and put them together into a full experience. I honestly think she did a good job with that. she also helped with assisting some of the problems with VR and I believe shes the one that got the movement system working (before I had it so you teleport to prespecified locations like in SteamVR home) I also think that she was the one that put the codes on the books?
I worked on getting VR up and running to begin with as well as the system that the escape room uses! I'm actually very proud of this, but i dont really get to show off too much because thats more under the hood stuff. I also did modeling in blender for this project but in the end we didnt go with most of the assets I modeled and opted to use asset store stuff. I think its a shame, but the game turned out beautiful, so I believe that was the right choice. The system is a script that randomly generates the correct answer to the puzzle and then also generates fakes so no 2 playthroughs as the same. the puzzle will be in the same order, but the clues, hints, and answers will be different. I am also proud that I made it so that puzzles can easily be taken out or added in thanks to this script. for example, one part of the puzzle wasnt working (gameplay wise. I believe there just wasnt enough clues for it ex: after you look at the whiteboard, look under the flowerpot for a key. who would think to do that?) but thanks to the way the script was set up we were able to easily take that puzzle out the final game without breaking the whole thing or needing to recode! being able to add and remove puzzles at will and also have the correct steps always work was something im really proud of. I also coded the pin pad that unlocks the door at the end. These are things I'm pretty proud of myself for managing to make work.
All in all, I'm still proud of this final project and am proud to add it to my resume, but I would like to have another go around at it one day! Speaking of, considering its so easy and the ease of the system code, I might come back and make a hard mode with more puzzles and less obvious hints for people that want a real challenge!
